Title: General hardware problem (is my laptop just a dud?)
Post by: operative on August 15, 2010, 06:39:22 PM
Hi,

I bought a Dell Insiprin 17R last week. For the first several days, Windows 7 froze multiple times a day. I contacted Dell technical support but nothing they did helped matters. So I switched to Ubuntu (dual boot), figuring that maybe the Windows install just was messed up. But there's been strange stuff going with Ubuntu too--twice the system checked for system errors when it booted; once the clock applet failed and once I could not log into my account (I had to have the system again check for errors, and that at least got it so I could log in).

I can't think of what specific part might be causing a problem here. Is the laptop just a dud?

If it's still under warranty i would take advantage of that immediately....

I wouldn't even worry abut what part is bad, I'd just send it back to Dell for a warranty replacement.
