Title: a deleted dvd drive by mistake
Post by: shanooky on January 21, 2009, 01:27:31 PM
Hi everyone, my friend was having problems with her packard bell laptops drive, it wouldnt open any discs, she checked device manager and it was showing there, but somehow she deleted it, so it's not showing in "my computer" either now. When she puts a disc in it spins but nothing shows, i've suggested installing some burning software that might make it appear again or even belarcing it, I dont know if she has tried it yet, but has anyone got any suggestions please?

Many thanks Shanooky

Did you try using System Restore?

or

Didn't your PC found a new hardware which is your lost DVD Drive?

either both failed...

Installing a DVD Driver won't solve the problem.
But check on the BIOS if the DVD Drive is recognized.

Then go repair on OS Installation.

Hi there, thanks for the help.

I dont unfortunately have her laptop here at mo, but I thought after it being deleted in device manager it wouldnt help with a system restore, but I'll hopefully have the laptop tomorrow.  As for new hardware nothing comes up, she has rebooted it lots of times and the disc just spins and nothing comes up in new hardware or my computer. So I wouldnt think it would come up in BIOS.  Tomorrow will tell I suppose.

Thankyou Shanooky

Try one of these:
1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Restart computer.
or...
2. Download, and run Restore Missing CD Drive patch (http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip)
Double click on cdgone.zip to unzip it.
Right click on cdgone.reg, click Merge.
Accept registry merge.
Restart computer.
or...
3. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see two items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.

Hi, I tried all of what you advised, but nothing worked, so I think it's a broken drive.

Thanks Shanooky
