Title: Windows 10 Setup getting updates issue
Post by: comda on October 25, 2015, 01:14:28 PM
Greetings ComputerHope!

A few weeks ago, my SSD died so i sent it away to get it warrantied. And ive been happy with customer service's help. In the mean time i installed OSX, and windows 7 on a standard drive. Im talking about a macbook, but dont shy away yet.

I have windows 7 Home Premium and want to get windows 10 once i get the SSD back. But ive noticed all the PC's in the house that did an windows 7 > 10 upgrade are rather slow. So this was my mind set. I do the windows 7 > 10 upgrade on the HDD to get the key, then once i get the SSD, i just do a clean install of 10 without the upgrade.

But i have windows 7 SP1 installed, i downlaoded the Windows 10 Media Creation tool, and its downloaded windows, checked, i aggreed to the UELA etc, now its on "Getting updates" and its checking for updates. Its been like this for over an hour. The application has not crashed, it just sitting. Now what?

You just have to wait.

Artist: The Supremes
Album: The Supremes A' Go-Go
Released: 1966
Lyrics: You can't hurry love / No, you just have to wait / She said love don't come easy / It's a game of give and take… Full lyrics on Google Play

They anticipated the Windows 10 up date by fifty  years.
It is coming in 2016.  ::)

So far, my Windows 10 updates have been faster tan Windows 7.
But even Windows 7 was  never over two hoers.
You will have to shut it down.
On restart it may do a repair t o itself.
What is your connection speed?
Maybe you should try it at 2 AM in the morning.

my connection speed is 6mbps. And ive done all 6 other machines in the house and combined with the download and install no more then 1.5-2 hours. I ended up stopping the install and doing some windows 7 updates. ill try again tomorrow.

Hope you get it done.  :)
At one time you could get a full download that would save o lot of time if you have several windows 7 desktop machines.

i don't know if that still works.

Thanks for the help guys! I ended up running some windows 7 Updates as it was a clean install so i did the first 200 some odd updates, then ran the windows 10 setup again. This time within a few seconds the update screen on windows 10 setup jumped to 17% then through to 100%. Everything went through well and now im running 10. Thanks for the assistance.
