Title: Networking help
Post by: computerilliterate on May 10, 2016, 08:15:42 AM
I am looking for some networking help. I run a small business in my home and am hiring a couple people. We will each have a separate computer. I ant to know about each type of configuration possible, the pros and cons of each. Ultimately I want to know which option is the best and what hardware will i need to accommodate this

We will need to know a little more about what you are trying to get done. Will you have a web page? How many people will be on your network? How many will have in a year? This will help with the planning for growth. Are you planning on email? Will you be selling things on the web?

As you can see there is a lot of open questions. You really need to think of the stuff that has nothing to do with computers. Items like growth, products, types of service to support your company.

I hope that this helps a little.

Are you planning on having wired or wireless?

Each have their own printer or will that be networked?

In that case nothing difficult is needed. He cam just get two  PCs and use use Wi-Fi to connect all three. The printer can go wireless. Most of the equipment used in a home network works good in a small business.

As for security, the current routers and adapters used for wireless have very good security features.
