Hi, first timer here, I really appreciate any and all help -
For some reason, certain pages won't load on my computer (on Firefox, Chrome, or IE). It's only on certain webpages, for example [1] (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/16/world/asia/16king.html?hp) and [2] (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/16/world/europe/16imam.html?ref=global-home). Most pages however, work fine, e.g. this one (http://nytimes.com/) or this one (http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/05/14/where-the-debt-is-coming-from/) (notice there that nytimes.com works, as does economix.blogs.nytimes.com/xxxxx, but nytimes articles won't load...).
But wait, it gets weirder. Sometimes the page does show up! A page that doesn't load today might work Monday night, but not work again Tuesday morning. Once, one page would load in Chrome but not in Firefox.
Also, these pages will load on other computers on my LAN network, just not mine.
The weirdest thing, however, is that the title of the page loads (meaning the text in the blue bar at the top of the browser) and the source code is all there. I can go to a page that doesn't load, hit view source, and see the whole html source. However, the page won't load.
When I say won't load, I don't mean I get an error page. Instead, the title loads, like I said, but the page just looks gray and circley load button keeps on spinning, permanently.
I figure it must be some external application, because it's a cross-browser problem. Other pertinent facts:
*I recently switched from Comcast to Verizon FiOS
*I recently downloaded a new version of Java
*Firefox 3.6.3
Thanks!

Do you have any add-ons in Firefox?
-
Forecastfox 0.9.10.2
FoxyProxy Standard 2.19.1
IE Tab 1.5.20090525 [disabled]
Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 0.0.0
Session Manager 0.6.7.4
TinEye Reverse Image Search 0.7.1
Java Quick Starter 1.0
Edit Cookies 0.3.8.1
Thanks for the response

Here's a list of my plug ins (http://www.mediafire.com/file/0u12e5doimy/About Plugins.htm). Sorry for the weird format.
This is where I think the problem lies.

Better yet, here's a link (http://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1klffTGn2b1oCGqG0dRvOearvSp-X9NbBtQ809hiLCQ8) so no downloads are necessary.

Try disabling ALL your add-ons and if the problem stops then enable them one by one. I had a probelm with Firefox crashing 5 or 6 times a day and i disabled everything and it stopped. I haven't even missed the add-ons i disabled, they are still disabled.
I also had a similar problem with pages loading like you and i noticed that at some point I'd enabled the 'Start Private Browsing' in the Tools Tab. Do you have this enabled?? If so disable!!
-
It was neither the add-ons nor private browsing, thanks though.
-
Good to know what it was...
-
Hm? I was just saying thanks cuz I'm uber grateful for any help ;D - the problem's not solved though.
-
So you've tried all the suggestions ? ?
You may be infected if your pages are getting re-directed...visit our Virus and Spyware section.
-
It's not that I'm getting redirected, it's that the page won't display in the browser, and the load circle just spins continuously. There's not even an error message; when I hit view source the code is even all there!
-
What kind of connection is this ? ?
-
It's a LAN connection and I have Verizon FiOS, which I recently transferred to.
-
Have you tried pinging the relevent address??
-
Good call. Pinging www.nytimes.com works, but pinging any article results in a timed out request.
-
You have 'Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U19' maybe try disabling and install 'Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U20'
-
That wasn't it. How about in the plugins (http://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1klffTGn2b1oCGqG0dRvOearvSp-X9NbBtQ809hiLCQ8) the fact that there's a ton of different versions of "application/x-java-applet" under Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U19?
-
Hm, maybe this will spark some new ideas: washingtonpost.com will work, but washingtonpost.com articles will not.
-
I'd be surprised if it has anything to do with the problem, but I've got to ask. Did you have the same problem with Comcast?
-
I didn't, but I don't think that's the problem because other computers on my LAN with Verizon don't have any problems.
I'm starting to think it's a virus; one virus scanner I just used said my explorer.exe is infected, so I might try a repair install.
-
According to me this type of problem is basically occurred due to the browser issue. There might be some problem in your internet browser which doesn't allow it to load certain pages. To get rid over this type issue, for that you will need to reinstall your internet browser. I also had same problem and I also used this solution to resolve it.
-
Like I said before, the pages didn't load across any browser, so that wasn't the problem. A virus scan fixed it, albeit temporarily.
