for OS Build 16299.192 on W10 1709 will not install on my PC. It tried last night and hung my PC. Had to restore from a backup image. Tried to install again. Looked like it installed ok but got an error message saying it did not. What should I do? Thanks.
Just found this - exactly what happened to me with my old Athlon processor:

Interesting ... I have a few systems with the Athlon 64 x2 processors.
None of them patched yet as they are offline. Its good to know that this could render them broken if I have them update. One of them is running Windows 10 64-bit Home from the free 7 to 10 upgrade path they had, and other 2 are Windows 7 and Vista.

Don’t understand why MS stays mute. Many speculate they will declare affected processors obsolete rather than repair patch. This will not make me happy but I wish they would make a statement one way or the other.
-
The patch was not very well tested. It seems to utilize processor features during it's setup process which don't work on older AMD processors.
The Meltdown patch only affects Intel processors anyway so applying it to AMD chips doesn't actually fix anything anyway, and Spectre, the other discovered flaw, affects All x86 compatible CPU chips save a handful of exceptions since the Pentium Pro, and there is no "patch" or "fix" for it because it is part of the elementary design.
You can use this Troubleshooter (http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f22d5fdb-59cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab) to hide the update.

Thx BC. I found the troubleshooter earlier today and hid the update. Restarted PC and it did not try to install so I hope all is well for now. I hope MS understands what you posted.

Looks like MS understands issue and is working to get it resolved.

That's pretty funny. They rushed the patch, apparently didn't bother to give it any proper testing, but of course it is somebody elses fault because they weren't told it wouldn't work. Would be even funnier if the documentation they are referencing was provided by Intel.

Yeah, I’m sure AMD appreciates being hung out to dry on this one. Of course, maybe they did give MS incorrect info. Wonder how many people lost everything? Probably most heavy and/or sophisticated users had recent restore points or backups. However, I bet many (thousands, millions?) around the globe got screwed.

The patch has been pulled...

The patch has been pulled...
Is this different from what MS said they were going to do?

Ok, same as article I posted.
