Title: Microsoft Outlook 2007
Post by: horseshoe1970 on August 12, 2008, 02:02:59 PM
Does anyone know if it is possible to share a contacts list or address book if you are not using exchange?  We are a small 4 computer office, and don't have the need to run our own email server.  Any help would be appreciated.

So you want to share the contacts list with the other four computers, yes?

Try the Mircosoft Solution Center: http://support.microsoft.com/ph/11335

Are you using a local area network? Or how are the computers connected?

I don't think there is a way, with Outlook 2007, without using Exchage Server, or more "payed-for" software.

Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft didn't find anything free, but there are apparently a number of sites out there that offer a product like Exchange.

Sorry I couldn't help you, but come back tomorrow. Someone might know something I don't.

Good luck with it. ;)

Maybe you could create a file path to one address book that is shared on network.

Files can be shared between PC's and accessed on a local network if done right.

This is based on outlook 03...don't have 07

Take a Personal address book file and put as shared on network. Then set this PAB on each computer aiming toward this file. so anytime a new email contact is added you are all adding to same file.

This is all theory..I have never attempted it. So attempt if you wish.

To set PAB go to outlook tools, then email accounts, add new address book, additional address book, personal address book..then aim path at the shared file. do this for all PC's.

I don't know if the above suggestion will actually work, but it sounds like a good idea.  You might as well give it a try.

Other than that, I really can't think of any way to share these files in a live setting without MES.  You could e-mail new contacts to each other, which are easy to integrate via Outlook 2007, but it's inefficient for what you want to do.
