Title: Recommend a good dual-core
Post by: Neil on December 15, 2007, 10:52:24 AM
Hello all again!

I have an Asus-A8N-E motherboard which I believe is socket 939, currently housing an Athlon 64 3200+. I'm looking for a dual-core processor for Christmas but I don't really know much about them, and which would fit into my current motherboard

Any help welcome! :)

Nice to see you back Neil, where have you been hiding?
I can recommend Ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/search/?strSearch=&bolShowAll=true&intStoreID=2&intCatID=230&intSubcatUID=1958&bolShowAll=true) - they have some pretty good prices on S939 dual cores right now, and I don't know of any other reputable retailers in the UK still selling 939 CPUs.

Thanks.

I've been "hiding" at university and had just too much stuff to do I kind of didn't have time for Computer Hope anymore. It's the holidays now though!!

Do you know what's the limit for my motherboard? Will any Athlon 2X work?

Cool, good to see you back anyhow.

Any socket 939 CPU should work on that board.
Out of the CPUs at Ebuyer, I'd recommend this one. (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/134127)
But, remember it's OEM, so you'll need a cooler to go with it.
