Is there a difference between using ethernet or usb port connections for the internet as far as quality or speed are concerned ? And, do I have to let my provider know that I will be switching to ethernet from usb port?
When hooking up a new computer to the internet via cable (ethernet), do I have to reconfigure anything? Or write down the present configuration?
Thanks! :)

I JUST switched from USB to Ethernet, and notice no difference really... Also, it is NOT necessary to contact your ISP about how you will be connectiong... Hope this helps! ;) (Yay! I just hit 3,000 posts!)

MarleneD..... You should only have to connect the cat 45 cable from the cable modem to the ethernet port in the tower .......then if you have a anti virus program installed ...open explorer and your up and running ....you will have to setup your mail account ( in outlook express ) just create a new account and use the same settings as you had on the other pc .

The USB port has to share bandwith with other USB devices, the Network Interface Card does not.

Marlene... I just now noticed something... I ran a Norton Live Update, and the download speed seemed faster... Just a thought...

Thanks for the info y'all! I just ordered a new computer and can't wait to set it up! I think it has 8 usb ports - that will be very helpful; no more plugging and unplugging stuff.
Congrats on the hit 3,000 Flame!
