Title: Antivirus issue
Post by: ale52 on August 24, 2006, 04:01:45 PM
I've installed AVG antivirus for Linux on my machine. I took Rob's advice and decided to have some on...as an extra precaution.  Anyway, it installed and runs a scan fine. My problem is that in the GUI interface AVG won't let me run an update.  >:( I checked the properties on the folder and it is owned by root.

Do i need to run an update as sudo from terminal to get it to update? What might the syntax be?

Thanks

Oh my goodness, no idea!  I didn't even know AVG did a Linux antivirus.  You certainly wouldn't expect to be able to update the virus DB without admin privileges.

Aha.  A quick search reveals >this page< (http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_AVG_Free_antivirus_with_on-access_scanner).  Your answer is in there.
