Title: Keep getting Pop-Up saying not connected
Post by: Spa on September 25, 2008, 12:17:10 AM
Hi I just got a small problem

Sometimes when I'm surfing the net and I click on a link, I get a message saying I'm not connected to the internet and my internet connection will pause (whatever is loading) until I click the X to close the pop-up, then everything will pretty much work fine again but sometimes it doesnt and the link I click on will not load even when I do close the pop-up.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks a lot

What operating system are you using?
Windows Vista Home Premium

If you're getting an error what is the error message?
Not connected to internet. Would you like to connect?

When did the issue start occurring?
From when I first got my computer a few months ago

ALSO

I asked this same question in another forum and someone posted this

Are you having multiple setups in the internet connection?
example. dial up and broadband ,
Are you using a non wired connection?
This happens to me when I have 2 internet connections going at once.. example.
One broadband connection
and another ready to connect mobile phone plugged in. but not connected yet.

Thats exactly the problem I'm having...but the guy hasnt responded yet

By any chance, is this a wireless connection?

Can you give us a screenshot of the pop-up?

good idea

I used to get a Pop-Up that was different but said pretty much the same thing until just yesterday. I think its because I was stuffing around with my computer trying to fix the problem.....but thats not important anyway

How are you connected to the cable modem?

Sorry I'm a little clueless when it comes to computers, what do you mean?

Is there a cable connecting the computer to the modem that connects to the internet?

What sort of a computer do you have??? Desktop or laptop???
Is it Wireless or wired???
How often does the error come up??
Title: Re: Keep getting Pop-Up saying not connected
Post by: Spa on September 28, 2008, 02:27:03 AM
Desktp
Wired
And the error comes up maybe once every few days. But I think the message pops up according to what (random) sites I visit
Title: Re: Keep getting Pop-Up saying not connected
Post by: Carbon Dudeoxide on September 28, 2008, 02:27:54 AM
So are you saying the error only comes up when you visit a certain type of sites?
Title: Re: Keep getting Pop-Up saying not connected
Post by: Spa on September 28, 2008, 02:46:20 AM
Yea it mainly happens when I visit certain sites but also sometimes it will happen at a site that was fine the day before

Try resetting the Router and Modem. (unplug their power cables for about 20 seconds)

I'm not sure, but I think you should have a look here to make sure there isn't any 'outside influence' on the problem:

Hmmmm well that wouldnt surprise me at all since someone I considered a good friend a few years ago, who I'm not friends with anymore, was really getting into computers and loved the idea of hacking and all that, which he could already do back than...so I'm guessing these days he would be a lot better...interesting.

Thanks for that link, I dont have time to do what it says at the moment but when I do I will and if I have any problems I know where to ask  ;)

Thanks a lot for your time and help

This is off topic but I have CA Security and I'd like to run the CA Personal Firewall but before I do that I need to stop the Firewall that came standard with my computer...I've tried doing it in the past but I couldnt figure it out...Could you give me some pointers?

Thanks

P.S. CA Internet Security is pretty good isnt it?

One more thing

With the below, I noticed a lot of Partygammon, Partypoker, Partygaming...How can I totally delete those programs from my computer, I've run the CCleaner and done other things in the pasts but Partygammon/poker files keep lurking on my computer and its annoying because, for example, sometimes for no reason internet pages open up with advertisements and stuff like that

I think you should go through the whole deal:

It sounds like your computer is infected.

I don't think this is a malware issue.

You can't uninstall the Windows firewall as it is built into the OS. Installing the CA firewall should turn it off automatically which is all that is needed.

Just run HijackThis and place a check mark next to any 09 entry you don't want and then click Fix checked. Restart and they should be gone.
