Of course, this is about smart phones, not desktops.
Do a Google on:
Android is better than Windows.
... and find many articles that put Windows in from of Android.
just a few :

http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/August2014/windows-phone-8-1-vs-android-kitkat.html

Any of this true?
Both Android and Windows are moving targets. It is hard to know where they are going tomorrow. :)

In the context of phones, I'd say yes.
based on what I've seen, Windows Phones, and more recent Windows versions, work quite well on mobile platforms and devices. (I'm of the mind that they work fine with keyboard and mouse too, but some feel there has been a compromise in that regard.). And it is a worthy competitor to Android and even iOS in terms of what Windows on smartphones brings to the table.
One may wonder why, then, I think Android is better, after singing the praises for Windows phone. Well, for all the good design that went into Windows running on mobile devices, it is still only about on par with Android. The thing that breaks the tie is the fact that Android actually has "apps" (I hate that word) that you can use.
of course, all this is coming from somebody who has never owned a smartphone or mobile phone before, anyway (At least until the one I bought last week arrives)

For free Apps, Android has it.
The 35 best free apps for Android (http://www.stuff.tv/features/35-best-free-apps-android#fqpwgz7s5KqWB8tm.99)
You might like the NASA App
This isn't the best looking app in the world, but it's full of geek-level info and media from the NASA archive, along with news and updates on what's going on up there and back at base. Maybe one day they'll get a slick front end for it all, but for now this raggle-taggle collection of links, pictures, videos and news feeds has plenty to keep space cadets informed and entertained.

Android as an OS is built over LINUX kernel so its far more secure than its corresponding mobile OS like Windows.. well i can't say the same with iPhone. Android has approx 85% smart phone market share. Below are the points what I think makes it No1
1. Open Source : So it got huge response from Developer community. If you have the backing of developer community then its similar to acquire 100 start ups.
2. JAVA : No doubt Java is most popular programming language. So it is self explanatory
3. Huge APP Store : As a end user you need apps. For end users APP means one feature. So he is really excited to use free apps.
4. Low Cost : Android mobiles are cheap compared to IOS devices and Windows
5. Easy to Use : This is really the USP for Android.

I'm not sure that you can compare Android and Windows at all. Windows has great software for computers, and for Android you can develop many mobile applications. Here is an article about mobile applications and web applications https://owlab.group/our-blog/post/a-guide-to-mobile-app-development-web-vs-hybrid-vs-native (https://owlab.group/our-blog/post/a-guide-to-mobile-app-development-web-vs-hybrid-vs-native) (web development is still more related to Windows). Therefore, I repeat, in my opinion, this is an inappropriate comparison.
