Title: I dropped My Laptop
Post by: zebedee on February 13, 2010, 05:07:40 AM
Well I have had my Compaq notebook laptop for about 4 months now. It's worked okay despite my start panel moving around the sides of my laptop randomly when i switch it on! But i dropped my laptop today and when i was turning it on, and this green vertical line appeared on the screen. it doesn't disappear when i connect to the internet or when i turn my laptop off. I don't know what to do as i'm only 15 and my family are clueless with computers and so am i to be honest. Also seeing as i'm 15 i probably won't be able to buy any new cables or other technical things. Any help would be appreciated :)

Your laptop's display problem seems to have been caused by dropping it, so it is very likely indeed that it is due to either damaged hardware (display panel, ribbon cable etc) or maybe if you were very lucky, a dislodged connector at one end of the ribbon cable which links the display to the motherboard. There is no magic software fix. You need to take the laptop to a repair company. I don't see what relevance your age has to this.

We stock hundreds of "Salmon Trout" pictures.  You supply the darts...

It doesn't sound good.  Does the display look like any of the images on this site (http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2006/08/17/bad-video-on-lcd-screen/comment-page-11/).
