Title: need computer software to replace index cards

What is the best computer software to replace very outdated index cards - would like something where we can either bring up lists of our customers by their last names or by the month they are due for service?

It's times like this that should make us wonder why MS removed Windows cardfile... that would do exactly what is wanted here, I believe.
