Title: Constantly told to compact Outlook email, but it always aborts half way through
Post by: wolfman on March 25, 2010, 10:48:53 AM
I'm getting the message to compact email to save disk space, and yet everytime I do it, it aborts the process about half way through. Why do I keep getting this and why can't it finish the job? I'm using XP home and I believe it's OE6.

Try stripping out any large attachments you no longer need such as music and/or videos...

Music and videos that are in Outlook? Does it matter if they are in the inbox? Or if they're saved in folders? She has saved alot of emails, I thought someone had said, th enumber ofemails saved, shouldn't affect performance. But I suppose there is a thing as too much?

Is it Outlook or Outlook Express?  There is a major difference in how each saves emails.

Outlook Express stores emails and attachments locally (on her hard disk), both in folders and her in-box, so unless she is tight on hard disk space, I wouldn't worry about compacting emails.

If she is tight on hard disk space, then like Patio said she needs to start deleting large attachments.  Typically videos take up more space than anything else.  The majority of emails don't take up much space.
