Hello Folks! ;)
Iam stumped to see this 'New' hard drive-Q:, getting listed within 'My Computer'.
Double click yields "Access is denied"! :-X
I have only single Hard drive inside with 40GB storage with 2 partitions. 28GB has been allocated for Windows XP SP3 & remaining 12GB for Ubuntu 10.04.
But never before I have observed this Q: showing up under 'Hard Drive' listing!
***Another interesting point:: Right click on Q:>>Properties>>Shows up 'File System' as RAW. :o
Any ideas?!Refer to the attachments as well, please!

Sounds like your partition table took a hit. Try this - no warranties:
Open My Computer and R.click on Local Disk Q: Select Properties>Tools and click on Check Now in Error Checking. If you're really lucky your partition/files will be restored.

lol *censored*. So you have 1 hard drive spitted in 2 partitions, one working and one not. Cant be a problem with the HDD than right? But I am not sure. Try putting the HDD on other computer and see if its working. If it is its probably from the OS, maybe you mixed XP and UBUNTU wrong.

There is nothing wrong with the hard drive.
This is happening because Windows does not recognize or support the file system utilized by Linux. Sometimes Windows sees it, sometimes it doesn't. I personally don't know the cause of that. Just because it's listed as RAW doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it really. RAW explained on Microsoft's TechNet:
"It's simply a disk partition that has not been formatted with an NT file system, neither FAT nor NTFS."
If you can still boot to Ubuntu fine, there is nothing wrong with the partition. Some partition programs, like Partition Magic, will recognize the partition from within Windows and will show what it is correctly, but it still won't be accessible.
Oh, and I wouldn't try repairing it as Dusty suggested. Considering Windows can't actually read the Linux partition, it might damage it trying to "fix" it.

Iam able to boot & run Ubuntu 10.04 absolutely fine.From within Ubuntu, Iam able to access Windows files n folders & everything!
May be....I should learn to live with it (Ghost Q:)or rather IGNORE it!
