Hey,
I'm not showing up on the F@H team page. I'm sure I've configured it right; my username is Fleexy. Halp?
-
You'll show up once you have completed a work unit - have you finished one yet?
-
Um, it says 3/100. I assume that's 3% of a unit.
-
Yes, your name will not show until you reach your first WU . In this case 100/100. Welcome to the team.
-
Oh. Anyways, at 5% now, this protein is really complex. Why me?
-
Well many hands make light work. And, it's for a great cause. If you don't receive your F@H icon once you make the team. Give Admin. a little time and if you don't receive it , send nathan a PM.

my quad core usually takes about 5 hours or so to complete the average work unit. the GPU client takes three. of course this is a 2.33ghz quad. I don't know what your system specs are but it's important to bear in mind that a work unit doesn't normally take, say, a few minutes or anything.
-
With my much smaller Pentium D CPU 2.80GHz, it's probably more like 15 hrs. or so for me..
-
oh yeah and my 5 hours was with the SMP client... but I don't fold anymore on my desktop... last time I tried it didn't work so I have up. I just fold with my laptop now.
-
I'm folding with the SMP client on my hex-core computer (don't ask)...I get about 500000 steps per WU, and I haven't really timed how long it takes to complete one, but it takes a while.

welcome fleexy and thank you for joining

i'm 65 and it's slow enough ;) and some thing's are not working as well :o ::)

All of my WUs are 500k steps. It goes through suprisingly fast, but not fast enough for my impatient self ;-)

i might complete a 500 but never a 1,000 it runs out of time

what about 500k? (500,000)
-
yes 0/100 and 0/500 are fine when it sends me 0/1000 it takes for ages and the pc runs out of time to complete because i'm only on for about 4 hours
but i'm upgrading my pc with a duel core etc so it will be better , i hope ;D
-
I could possible complete a /1000 if I left my computer on all the time. I'm at 82/100 and the deadline is exactly one month away. Only on for about 6 hours a day. 24/6 = 4 and 1000 / 100 = and 10 > 4. I might not complete a /1000. If I buy a dual core I might. How much does a dual core cost? A quad core?

Folding At Home is something which is (allegedly) a useful thing to do with your spare CPU cycles. The ones available in the system you have now that you already paid for. It might or might not produce anything useful but it's supposed to be a good thing to do because it doesn't cost anything to use existing computing capacity. If you get obsessed with league tables and scores and you are considering spending mucho $$$ just in order to complete some "target", then, if you don't mind me saying so, you are missing the point.
-
I was planning on getting a dual core anyway. My computer is sometimes really s-l--o---w....
