Title: PCI Input Device/Multimedia Audio Controller issue: Win 7 Ultimate
Post by: DTMidian on July 09, 2010, 06:40:16 AM
Hello everyone, I haven't been here in ages. It's good to see theres still a community here! Anyway, I am sitting here pulling my hair out trying to figure this one out!

I am Dual Booting XPsp3 and Windows 7. XP works perfectly. I recently installed windows 7 and started updating my drivers. Thats when i noticed my chipset doesn't seem to be installed. I have onboard 7.1 Realtec Audio that suddenly stopped working last year so i disabled AC97 in the bios and popped in a pci soundcard(Creative Labs Model CT4670). The soundcard works perfect in XP, devices are installed in device Manager, but windows 7 DM doesn't see anything but
-PCI Input Device! and
-Multimedia Audio Controller !

Windows will not update these, I have been to MSI support for latest mobo\bios drivers, NVIDIA support for latest chipset drivers, Creative for the drivers to the soundcard, AND installed DriverMagic, and Driver Genius. Everything says I am fully updated, but I still dont see the chipset in Device Manager.

SPECS-
Custom Built
mobo- k8n neo4 platinum AMD NVIDIA Chipset
CPU- AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2.40 GHZ
RAM- 2.50Gb
Hdd- (5)
Audio Card- Creative Labs Model CT4670
Video Card- NVIDIA GeForce 6800
------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
I am Dual booting 32 bit windows xpsp3, and Windows 7 Ult 64x.
I cannot find ANY drivers pertaining to my hardware and Windows 7 64x.
so i tried
-x64 vista drivers (the setup failed because it claimed the installer was 32 bit.)
-Windows XP x64 drivers (said the same thing)
-32 bit XP and Vista drivers (failed because installer is 32???)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
When I run the Creative drivers (32bit? because the 64 setup claimed it was 32), it loads the installer successfully, but tells me there are no creative lab devices connected. This tells me that the soundcard is not an issue, but the pci slots are not recognized. I checked everything in the bios. and again,
Everything works fine when i boot into xp, so this problem is IN Windows 7!!

                                                  Please Help?!

If you are running 53bit Win7 then if there are not Win7 64bit drivers you're next best choice would be Vista 64bit drivers...not XP.

I am running 64 bit, but 64 bit installers are failing, 32 bit are not.
The 64 bit installers claim
" you are running a 32 bit application in a 64 environment"

Well according to the pics it is Win7 Ultimate and is 64bit ver....

But i know of no existing glitch in Win7 that blocks driver installs....this is provided they are the correct drivers.

Puzzling that it's more than one though...

1st thing i would do is try uninstalling both of those "driver tools" you have installed...re-boot and try agaim/

The NForce 4 has been in Legacy support by manufacturers and Nvidia since before Windows 7's release. There are no Windows 7 drivers.

The Message you receive is actually not accurate. it's a catch all "version mismatch" error. The drivers were released for Windows Vista- and they check <for> windows Vista. When they don't find Vista, they display that error (or so it would appear judging from people with similar problems). You could try setting compat mode on the installer to Windows Vista.

You were right on with the compatability mode, chipset installed, but pci input and multimedia are still in DM still no sound. I am beginning to think that i have tried everything i can but this audio card will not work with windows 7. guess i'll have to get a new one. Thanks for your input guys
