When I click the system tray Skype's icon I get this error: " out of system resources"
Please help me.
-
Can you list the specs for your computer?
-
What do yo mean with specs?
-
Just tell us how much ram is installed in the system. Also, does this happen with any other programs or just Skype?
-
How do I find that information ("ram")
-
Right-click on MY COMPUTER then click on PROPERTIES. Post everything you see in the little window that comes up.
-
System
Microsoft Windows XP
Media Center edition
Version 2002
Service pack 3
Manufacturer
Sony electronics Inc.
VAIO Computer
Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz
3.19GHz, 1.50 GB of RAM

Just Skype
-
Please check one other thing. Go back to the My Computer Properties, then click on the Advanced Tab, then the Performance Settings button, then the Advanced Tab. At the bottom under Virtual Memory, what does it say the setting is?
-
Total paging file size for all drives: 2046
-
Open task manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and click on the performance tab. Please do the following:
Post the numbers for PF Usage (the little graph on the left) and the number for Commit Charge Total (the bottom left box) WITHOUT Skpye open. Now try to open Skype and post the same numbers again.
-
All numbers? It changes too fast. I can't get them all.
-
Neither number I requested should change much, if at all, when you look at it.
-
Commit charge numbers do change too fast
-
The TOTAL number shouldn't, but okay. What's the PF number?
Also, here's something I'd like you to try. Download and run Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml). It does not have to be installed, just download and run. Look at each tab. Uncheck any startup items you don't absolutely need. Reboot. Try Skype. What happens?
-
PF Usage 994, 995
-
I use Firefox. It gives me 2 options 1) open with and 2) save file. what options should I take?
-
Save (to a location you'll remember)
-
Saved. Now what?

Now it works.
-
Okay. Take a look at all the startup items you unchecked. At least one of them is either causing a conflict or eating too much memory. Choose the ones you absolutely need to start when the system first loads and re-check them. You can start the rest if and when you need them each session.
