Title: I E 8 vs Firefox
Post by: JooBear on September 24, 2010, 04:08:39 PM
I sometimes play games in IE 8 (example Facebook games).
People have suggested to switch over to Firefox since it runs much smoother and don't freeze up as much.

Question:  I cannot view any of my Facebook games in Firefox but the usual news feed appears just fine.

Flash player is current, what am I missing?  Thanks for your help!

Visit the Computer Hope System Information script page (http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/systeminfo.cgi) and make sure all your plugins are up-to-date or a later version. Also if you have any addons try temporarily disabling them if you're running all the latest plugins. This is done by clicking Tools and then Add-ons.

Try Google Chrome, it's fast and clutter free. I've kept firefox and IE for only specific reasons, not for browsing though. I find both browser resource intensive and freeze quite often when you have too many tabs and add-ons enabled. If you're running Windows 7, then I suggest that you upgrade to IE9 immediately simply because a lot of bugs related to performance have been fixed.

My 80 tabs and 5 pages of addons beg to differ... (FF)

I love Firefox - I also run a lot of tabs at once and I have never had a problem. At my place of work we were trying to load IE 8 for our intranet but it kept giving us errors and endless issues. Now we are running everyone on firefox  ;)

You should start a new topic rather tack your question onto someone's topic.  So, please start a new topic.

FF is the way to go. You can fix a lot of issues such as crashing and so on by modifying the about:config. make sure you know what your doing first. The main thing i modify is the memory setting of FF. I normally lower it and it works like a charm. If only IE would follow along the lines of the standards compliant browsers there would be no need for hacks and so other "tweaks".

I like firefox better, it seems a lot of websites in internet explorer looks all jumbled up. Then once you open it in firefox, the site looks fine and you can read everything. Plus, its a lot faster if your playing games and/or doing facebook =) I still use both tho ;-)

There are pros and cons to using Google Chrome, IE8 or higher, and Firefox browsers. The best thing to do is download all three browsers and use the one that can handle a certain task better.

I'll take that one step further.  Last I counted there were over 15 different browsers and I'm sure each will appeal to different people.

Personally, I've got six, and I keep them mostly up to date, although, I use Firefox almost all of the time.

I'm using Firefox. Firefox is definitely better than IE. Between Firefox and Chrome, both browsers have their own plus and minuses. Chrome is simpler and easier to use, but if you're typing something in text boxes, it's like you're typing in a note pad. Firefox is more of a traditional browser which we most of us usually use which is why for some, it's easier to use. Both browsers crash at some point. Apple Safari is also a good browser.

I'm also using Firefox right now. I would rather choose it instead of IE but when it comes to Google Chrome between Firefox, I choose both because at some event Firefox is necessary and in some point Google Chrome is also needed. So I think Google Chrome and Firefox are at the same level of importance, i guess. Google Chrome and Firefox have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Firefox is by far better the IE8, but I still use Chrome and IE8 as well. Each has their strengths and weaknesses. Chrome is the fastest with the fewest problems, but it also has the fewest plugins, plus there is some functionality that I don't get in Chrome that I like better in Firefox.

When I need to use IE8, I use a plugin for firefox called IE Tab Plus. It lets you open an IE8 window inside of a firefox tab. Sweet!

Sweet as it may seem but using it very often will make your firefox crash in the long run so be careful using it

I dont know why but my computers starts lagging hard when I play games like Bejeweled Blitz of FB poker. I tend to use google chrome because it runs smoother than firefox, but that is just me. I do not know if anyone else had that problem, but I only use Google to play games on FB and other websites. I still love firefox though

I would recommend using Firefox not only because of its easy "find updates for all plugins" function, but also because it has more addons which give you more ability on the web. Maybe this will help you and others decide:
