I didn't see anything in that that addressed his question. Did I miss something?

How to set password on partition without using software?

You can't. You can encrypt a partition, but you can't password it without the help of some other software. It just doesn't work that way. You may also password specific files or folders.

Perhaps if you could explain what you're trying to do exactly we could give you some advice on how best to achieve it.
