Title: winfixer
Post by: pdough on August 11, 2005, 09:38:08 PM
Hoping somebody can help...I have read through a bunch of posts on this subject and tried to take care of things myself but to no avail....I have seen different programs to use and lots of "don't move to the next step till you have sent a hijack this log" I am as unhappy about winfixers ability to cause these problems as others but am a bit confused about it. After reading I have done some checking and don't see the obvious signs of this problem...nothing in remove programs, msconfig, startup logs, but it still seems to be there....I am trying to help my father here with his computer and am not sure wether he has ever actually downloaded this virus...when I open the net on this computer I get the annoying multiple winfixer popups and installers but I have been online reading here for over an hour and it hasn't bothered me since. He finds it pops up all the time and not just when he is online and it is driving him crazy.

Here's more reading.

Google for lots more.  It seems to be adware rather than a virus.

Good luck

pdough.....It's possible that Winfixer has placed entries in the registry which are causing the issue .......I would be doing a manual search of the registry and removing all traces of Winfixer ....... BTW which O/S are you using .
NOTE ....before attempting a manual removal of anything from the registry .........be sure and make a backup of the registry ...... and if your not sure how to work in the registry .....let us know
