I recently purchased an Alienware 3.06 gz laptop - it runs about an hour with 2 batteries.
It was in bad shape software wise because owner had tried to upgrade without first flashing BIOS....To upgrade to SP2 I had to flash BIOS - no problem and new BIOS had hyper threading (previous BIOS did not) which had to be enabled to upgrade to to SP2. Upgrades done.
I rejoined SETI and decided to take advantage of the dual prosessors. 2 CPUS are shown on Device manager but only one on task manager. I would like to be able to use both.
Another minor irritation... Whenever I am referred from one site to another, I am referred to the German version. Win XP language is english and the location is in the US. Beats me.
Thanks,
lou

Irigoulot:
Does Windows XP indicate both CPUs in Device Manger are working properly?
-
Since when can you see processors in the Task Manager?
-
Both are working properly in device manager.
I have another computer using hyperthreading - and when I open task manager its shows percentage usage of each processor. A seperate window for each.
I am still looking for a solution.
Thanks,

Something else:
It shows a BIOS version dated 1992 - way to early for the one I am running.

My bad. The name Task Manager didn't immediatly spell it out for me.
Can you not flash the BIOS?

Another interesting post i feel>http://omaha.craigslist.org/sys/84049926.html

Did you ask Alienware?

Maybe SETI has invading your pc..........

Thanks for the support:
That Craig list laptop is the one (and it needs a new keyboard) I have but does it use power, have to hit it with a vacuum cleaner every month else it will overheat - the fan runs constantly.
I did flash the BIOS with the latest from Alienware so I could get Service Pack 2. I'd BSOD everytime with old BIOS. I searched forums at Alienware but nothing. Their tech support leaves a lot to be desired.
I will prolly have to reinstall windows - maybe windows will catch their error this time but was trying to avoid that.
Or, running SETI on an Alienware - maybe I found one.
Thanks all
