Hi, I have lots of questions, what distro, what revision, are you dual booting (Sdb 2 implies you are), what boot director,
what vers of windows is currently resident, did you verify the MD5 check sum of your install media ??????

By description I suspect confusion in the MBR and /. mount point to say the least, but suspecting and knowing leaves a lot of doubt between with even more questions about how it got there.

Happy to help but more information about your system is desperately needed before any answer can be achieved.
