Title: Linked Hotmail Account
Post by: Hoping888 on April 13, 2011, 06:33:19 AM
If two hotmail accounts are linked can you sign in as either account and access the other or is it only one way?

If it is two way, can this be changed so you can only access from one?

Thanks!

Please do not post the same question more than once. I deleted the duplicate.

Sorry, I realised I had put it in the wrong topic so was trying to correct it and delete the wrong post.  Now the original post is still in the wrong topic...

It's fine where it is. If anyone can help they'll find it here, I promise. :)

You did...i took the liberty of moving it here...

At any rate i believe even though linked you still have to log in each seperately...
Otherwise it would pose a security nightmare on their end...

Per http://explore.live.com/windows-live-hotmail-other-accounts-mail-ui , you can pull mail from other accounts into Hotmail but those must be POP-enabled accounts.  And, oddly, that does not include another Hotmail account since Hotmail can not be POP-enabled, i.e. to work like a POP account.  So, as patio mentioned, what you want to do with two Hotmail accounts won't work.

It seems that if I sign into my hotmail I can see a friends but I don't know their password at all!  Does this mean they can see my emails now?

Exactly what can you see?  Can you see their emails?

Yeah, I suspect he has a Messenger account and may be seeing the usernames of other Messenger users.  But, I'm sure he won't/can't see email messages of other Hotmail users, even if those users also have a Messenger account and he sees their Messenger name on some screen within Hotmail when he's using it.

No, I can see their whole email account with various folders including inbox, sent, deleted etc.  Like I have signed in as them but I have only signed into mine and don't know their password.  It isn't messenger.  My concern is that can they see all of my mailbox?

Can you open their messages and read them?  I may be asking you for a screen print to confirm what you're saying since what it just isn't believable.

Yes I can see all their emails, read them, see sent ones, see attachments, look at their calendar, EVERYTHING!  I'd rather not post a screen shot just for security but I can see their hotmail account the same as I see my own and can do everything.  If I open a hotmail sign in page and try and sign in as them I can't as I don't know the password but if I sign in as me and then go into theirs it's ALL there!

Obviously this is why I'm so worried about what's going on and just the security in general.

Do you know this person whose mail you can access?

Yes, we used to live together so used the same computer (mine) quite a lot and from memory we both could have had our password saved so that when you're on the sign in screen you just click on your name and it automatically goes in without you having to enter your password.  Could this be how they linked up at some point maybe?

I suspect this may the clue.

Could you contact this person to discuss this?

I'd rather not contact them.  I just wanted to know if they could see mine really.

I think a screenshot of the said page would bring justice to this discussion. Could the OP make one to see it?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'being played'!  Do you think I'm finding this fun?

I can't take a screen shot though without it showing both email addresses.

Sounds more like your computer still has the password for this other individual saved as a cookie.

I have checked with them and they have changed their password, this wouldn't work then even if it were saved would it?  I have changed my password a few times too.
