I have 2 lap top computers running xp home, I use ie 6 on both recently I have been having a problem with both computers when using Ie, when I type an address in the address bar and hit enter or go, it just sets there for about 3 to 5 min. then goes to the required site, doesn't matter what site I type in, I have run several virus scans on both computers have reset to original settings have tried reloading Ie 6 from Microsoft, have run several spyware programs, have deleted all or any extra search bars "msn, yahoo ect.". If I click a link inside a page it goes right away like it's supposed to, if I use a search bar off say MSN.com it goes right away. What the heck is wrong????

Have you also scanned for Spyware? If yes, what scanners were used?
-
I used super ad blocker, system mechanic 5 and spybot search and destroy.
-
IE>Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Reset Web Settings
You may then have to reset your homepage under 'General'.
PS: Check for Hijackers.
-
Reset the home page as suggested no help, you'll have to help me out, how do I check for Highjackers, It never goes were it shouldn't nor does it bring up ads, or other pages not requested.

Try more than one spyware scanner.
Anti spy/malware
Microsoft Antispyware (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en)
-- Anti spyware scanner. Windows XP Home and Professional only.
Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html)
-- Anti spyware scanner
Adaware SE Personal (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/)
-- Anti spyware scanner
-
IE>Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Reset Web Settings
Did you?
-
Yes Fed I did as you suggested no help, I am in the process of running the spyware suggested, have run spybot previously, just ran microsoftspyware prog, so far no spyware.
-
Download & run Hijackthis then post the saved logfile at the same address.

Ok have completed all suggestions;
Adware picked up 1 tracking cookie, removed it.
All other spyware progs found nothing.
Hijackthis returned one suspect file;
O2 - BHO: ST - {9394EDE7-C8B5-483E-8773-474BF36AF6E4} - C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\ST\01.03.0000.1005\en-xu\stmain.dll
Nasty Entries found in this registry zone are potentially nasty. This application ([9394EDE7-C8B5-483E-8773-474BF36AF6E4] - Result: 9394EDE7-C8B5-483E-8773-474BF36AF6E4) has been checked. Hit rate: 99 %
Must be fixed!
Not sure what to do with this, Delete it?
closed browser reopened nothing changed yet.
-
Run another Hijackthis scan, tick it & hit the fixit button.
-
I tell ya this thing is tough, I've been working on it myself for about 2 weeks now, I can say that I found out something else fooling around here tonight, if I click on the addresss bar drop down it spends a ton of time doing something. I have already cleared the history of this.
Fixed file mentioned above ran another scan and anylized again it was gone, got rid of a couple others I wasn't 100% sure about just in case closed browser tried again, no luck..... ???
-
You may have to reboot to make those changes have an effect.
You could also download & run ccleaner.

You guy's have a lot of good Ideas and suggestions, after completing every one of them, I'm affraid we haven't changed much. We have however fixed the drop down arrow on the address bar it now drops down right away as it should the address bar phenomenon however is still lagging. I timed the thing from the time I put in the url (a known url "yahoo.com") it took almost exactly 5 min before it started to go to the url. All this good information is very appreciated, what else you got.

Open Spybot S&D, set to 'Advanced Mode', select 'tools' from the left hand side, then select 'Browser Pages' and see if everything listed looks legit.
I assume you have emptied your cache as well as your history files?
-
When I pinged Yahoo, it timed out, but did return the ip address, when I ping the ip address it timed out also.
Don't know the procedure to capture screen shot. But I tried yahoo.com twice and the ip address once all timed out. I had a fleeting Idea with not being able to ping that it could be an issue with the cable dsl, however I have the same problem on my dail up and the network at my work place, the isp doesn't seem to matter.
-
Have emptied all saved files, address bar, temp, cache, cookies, everything I can find. AS we talked about last night reset explorer to original setting with start page the whole gammit.
-
In the spybot report you suggested here is the report, doesn't seem to be anything out of place I can see.

When I pinged Yahoo, it timed out
This is not good.
Try pinging other sites...
ping www.computerhope.com
-
Well it's a funny thing, when I pinged the 1st time around I tried yahoo.com, msn.com, Aol.com, internet2000.net, only one that would ping was internet2000.net, this time as you requested I tried computerhope.com it pinged, tryed yahoo.com it pinged this time internet2000.net and .com would also ping this time but msn.com and Aol.com would not. Some will work some won't Yahoo.com last time would not but this time would, explain that. Tried several times and it returned the ip address's so I know I have a viable address.

It's time you talked to your ISP and whoever supplies the line between you and your ISP. (Phone Company?)
