Title: BSOD when gaming. Urgent!
Post by: Ckarbon on July 10, 2011, 03:26:58 AM

After a while of playing games such as L4D2 my computer 'glitches out' and I get a blue screen. I think this may be because of a lack of virtual memory but I have set it to allocate a minimum of 3.5GB. I have a 500GB hard drive and 4GB RAM.

I have 32 bit XP which I thought could be the cause, but it does seem to recognise all of my RAM in system properties. Also, I have tried editing the registry file 'pagedpoolsize' to 0xffffffff (4294967295). This has delayed the problem but I still crash eventually.

Please help as this computer was very expensive and specifically bought for gaming.

Does your computer meet the requirements of the game?

Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

Sorry guys, here are my basic specs. I don't know if any others are necessary to specify. And yes I'm sure that they are at least the minimum required to play these games.

Processor: 3.45GHz AMD Athlon II X4 640
GPU: 1 GB ATI Radeon HD 5450
RAM: 4GB
Hard Drive: 500GB 7200RPM SATA II

Also here is BSOD.txt:

Let's start by updating your Creative Labs sound drivers and see what happens. Please go to the Creative Labs website and download and install the latest driver for your card.

Ok, my sound drivers are up to date. What is the next step?

Look in device manager - any errors? At least a couple of the errors you received were related to the Creative Labs 3d audio driver.

No noted errors present...

But on a related note, when I glitch out it distorts running processes and obviously then the whole system. The audio errors may just be an effect of the overload.

I'm starting to suspect my GPU, since it is deemed to be low-budget hardware and only 1GB. Any thoughts?

I have no idea what that means.

Sorry, I don't know any technical terms to describe it. When I referred to 'glitching out' I meant that before I get the BSOD all processes fail and there is static in the display (distorted visuals & pixelated lines) and audio (loud screeching).

Thanks for all your help so far, by the way.

Will any of those games run in safe mode? Please boot to safe mode and find out. If so, play them for a while and see if there are any problems.

No games will run in safe mode. Required display and ATI drivers are not running.

Yeah, I was afraid of that.

I still think the errors point to a faulty audio device or driver. Please uninstall the creative labs driver. Then reboot and see if you can recreate the problem by playing the game.
