Title: on bootup

hello on bootup windows xp. i get the black screen with the options of os or recovery and have to wait for the count down. then i get to the blue welcome screen and it hang longer then it ever did.
is there something i can do?

am i missing something here?also my usb keyboard doesn't work till bootup finishes.

ok it's a dell demension 2400.windows xp service pack 3
using avast av. anything else?

Do you mean 1.startup repair options and 2.start windows normally? Any issues and changes prior to certain booting problem?

the problem is only with startup. after that all is well.have run av. malwarebytes, superanti malware,all is fine.
have more that half the harddrive left.the only thing done was switch to a usb keyboard.

Are you saying, everything is normal except for a very long boot time?

yup thats what i was saying.everything work great other then the way it starts.was thinking something was
wrong it never started like this before.also when booting the keyboad doesn't work so i can't used safe boot.

have not done #9 yet .will do when i return home .old ps2 keyboads works  but  the usb one only works after the pc boots up.if i wanted to use safe mode i can't

ok did what #9 said to do .does seem better.but still hang awhile at the welcome screen.

want to thank you all for the help.seems better. but i see usb keyboards don't always work in some bios.
