Title: Does this mean I have to upgrade Internet Explorer?
Post by: Jack Catalano on January 18, 2012, 06:41:06 PM

I have a question. How come I have to delete my browsing history after a week or two? I used to be able to wait 10 or 12 weeks before I had to delete it and now I have to delete the browsing history often. Why is that? Can somebody help me, please?

And yes, I do bookmark pages but still, once I delete the history, I have to start all over again typing in passwords for sites and typing in websites etc.

Now, would this mean I have to upgrade to IE 10? The truth is that the computer does tell me to disable my add-ons to speed up my computer but the truth is that I need my add-ons.

What is telling you that you have to delete your browsing history ? ?
I've never had to touch mine...

Noting is telling me to delete my browsing history. Its just that when I go to a website and webpage, it doesnt say that in my browsing history.

There is some other problem with your machine and software. The fact that you "have to delete your browsing history" (a fact which you have yet to properly describe.. .Why do you have to? What happens if you don't? etc.) is not a problem, it is a symptom.

Another possibility is you just aren't looking at it properly.

Whatever the case, it doesn't mean you have to upgrade Internet Explorer. The leap in logic required to come to that conclusion honestly boggles my mind...

It would be great if there was someway that everyone else could see what it is that you are looking at on your computer.  That way we could see exactly what you are looking at.  I think most of the irritation comes from using different words and terms to describe the same things.  There's probably two ways to do everything.

Im sorry if Im being vague, Im trying to describe this the best I can, so I will try it again. Now, for example, Im on computer hope.com right now. Well, if I look tomorrow or even today at my browsing history to see if computerhope.com is on there, it wont be. Thats the problem. The browsing history does not acknowledge the websites and webpages that Im on. It will for a week or two and then it wont.

OK ...much clearer...
The time limit can be set but it's different in each browser....which one do you use ? ?
For example in Firefox its under Tools/Options/Privacy/,,,use Custom settings...

I do not use IE.

However i just checked it...Tools/Internet Options/General/History...Custom settings...

Thank you for replying, patio. I use IE 9. Im just a little confused on what to do next because if your telling me to do:
Tools/Internet Options/General/History...Custom settings...

I follow you up to history and custom settings. I have Delete browsing history and it says either Delete or Settings. Is that what your talking about?

Should I choose a low number? I mean it says I can save my history for 200 or 300 days. Im assuming I should pick a number lower than 200 or 300.

Well, if I want to save it for 100 days or 200 days I can do that right?

Why do you HAVE TO delete browsing history if you don't want to? Couldn't you just leave it alone or is it being deleted earlier than you'd like?

Thats exactly whats happening. The browsing history is being deleted earlier than I would like. And btw, I saved the history for 200 days.

If you remember correctly you were having other browser issues and reset IE back to default...
That is probably the default setting and will stay that way unless you change it back.

The browsing history does not acknowledge the websites and webpages that Im on. It will for a week or two and then it wont.  Its happened again. Now I do have 2 users on my 1 computer, one under JACK and the other under JACK CATALANO. This means that I can log in to my computer as JACK or JACK CATALANO. Now, whether I log in as JACK or JACK CATALANO my computer  will not acknowledge the websites and webpages that  Im on.

What do I do now? Should I try to only have one user on my computer?

Lets say you have 2 User accounts on your PC:

Jack and
Jack C

If you open your browser in the Jack account all your web visits will be in the browsers History ONLY under that account.

So if later in the day you logon under Jack C and check your browser History then nothing you did earlier will be in that browser's History...because you are on a different account.

I still think you should only have 1 User account on that PC and...
I still think you should learn more about using bookmarks instead of relying on History for re-visiting sites you want...

But thats just me.

Patio, I do use bookmarks but its just easier for me to know what webpages and websites are on by having the browsing history. The thing is that whether Im on the computer as Jack or Jack Catalano, the computer isnt acknowledging websites or webpages Im on. Thats the problem. So what should I do?

In Internet Explorer's History Pane, what exactly do you see?

Normally, it contains items such as "3 Weeks Ago", "2 Weeks Ago", "Last Week", "Today", etc.

How exactly are items not showing up?

You state "Well, if I look tomorrow or even today at my browsing history to see if computerhope.com is on there, it wont be. "

However, it won't be there if you don't look in a area where it would be applicable.

For example, does CH show up under "today"? If you only look under today, it will only be there for a day; then it will go into "Last Week", etc.
You could also try to view using "Most Visited".

I'm basing this off IE8's User Interface so it may differ.

Thats just it. I see the samething your seeing, 3 weeks ago, 2 weeks ago, etc. with the webpages and websites listed.  But for "Today", Jan. 23,2012, NONE of the websites and webpages are listed in the History Pane.

How exactly are items not showing up?

I dont know why they are not showing up but there not.

You state "Well, if I look tomorrow or even today at my browsing history to see if computerhope.com is on there, it wont be. "

You could also try to view using "Most Visited".

As of right now, when I go to the browsing history section or the history pane as its called, it has just "Last Week" with all the webpages and websites listed and "Today" which has NONE of the websites and webpages listed.

I'm basing this off IE8's User Interface so it may differ.

Right-click on the forward or backward button in Firefox.

If we still referring to Jack, I believe  he was on IE not firefox...

History and Favorites can be viewed by the URL address box. Do you have these in IE9?
