Title: I get a blue screen every hour
Post by: Wuai Bel Ree on February 04, 2012, 07:49:04 PM
About every hour I get a blue screen with a bunch of white text going on about whatever. I checked the Event Viewer and went to System where I saw an Error entry that read this:

Event Type:   Error
Event Source:   Service Control Manager
Event Category:   None
Event ID:   7000
Date:      2/4/2012
Time:      8:32:06 PM
User:      N/A
Computer:   COMPUTER1
Description:
The MCSTRM service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Can someone help solve this?

I've tried it. It told me I'm missing a .dll file or two, yet when I tried to download new files I was asked if I wanted to replace the file that already existed. It's saying I don't have the files, but I'm being told I do.

Can you copy & paste the results here?  The driver may not be corrupt, but the device it is accessing may be defective.

Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

Did you recently update the driver for your ATI display adapter? If so, please roll back to the previous version. If not, please go to the ATI website and download and install the current driver for your card

Looks like he still has a dial-up modem in there.  If it's a desktop, try removing the card.

Couldn't find any driver updates to begin with.  :-\

Why do you bring up the dial-up modem? I don't think I use it anymore.

I've seen many of them go bad & cause problems.

The modem has nothing to do with anything.

What do you mean you couldn't find driver updates to begin with?

I was trying to make a catch-all sentence. Guess I didn't do a good job.  :P

I mean I haven't been able to find any new drivers, so I wouldn't be able to rollback or update. I tried a search before I came here for help, but it wasn't fruitful.

Go to the ATI website and download and install the most current driver for your video card.

That's what I already tried to do, but I couldn't find where to get it.

EDIT: Aha! Finally found it. Thanks for the feedback everyone. Problem solved!

The modem has nothing to do with anything...
Then, why would it be listed in the dump file?

Then, why would it be listed in the dump file?
That was from November.

We seem to be in good shape right now.
