Title: Cannot format and re-install from recovery cd
Post by: mismo on March 11, 2012, 02:47:02 PM
Hi, I am using Windows xp, due to problems from a virus I need to format and re-install my computer, never had problems with this in the past, I have tried  fail-safe defaults and PnP/PCI reset as suggested on this site, but to no avail.   I get a screen which says Verifying DMI pool data. Boot from CD, but I don't know what to do with this window.

Welcome!
Computer Hope is the number one location for free computer help.
The forum will help everyone with all computer questions.

The general procedure is to boot from the Windows XP CD and go through the installation prompts and use the default values.

For more exact procedures, the make and model of your Desktop or laptop is needed. Is the recovery CD from the maker of your computer? Some are specific to one brand and one model series.

Please know the above are rather generic and lack key details that might apply only to your computer. Please cone back here for anything that is not clear.

Yes the CD came with my computer, I have formatted and re-installed from this CD many times, however, as said all I get now is a black screen that says verifying DMI pool Data. Boot from CD, I've never seen this before.  I am using a Fujitsu siemens desktop computer, window XP and running Firefox.

RWF, Thanks for the link and welcome to computer hope.

The link says it all. Those faults can happen with any computer.

Not mentioned is the presence of any USB stick. Some computers with try to run from USB stick, which will fail is the stick does not have a correct boot code. This happens to me all the rime. The remedy is to remove the stick.

Also hard drive failure can stop almost any PC out thee. When the HDD does not respond, the BIOS just hangs. You have to remove the HDD and replace it with one that works. Later you slave and diagnose the bad drive once you get the system up.
