I am using Win 7 home edition and open my pc today and found my link to the hearts program missing. I went to accessories and went into games and it was no longer there, I did a search on my c drive and there was no hearts exe. I have no idea where it went. I went online and found what appears to be a common solution , to download and run System Update Readiness Tool for Windows. Did that and nothing still. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks

Tap F8 repeatedly at powerup to get to the Advanced start up Menu...
Run the Startup Repair...last choice at the bottom i believe.
Re-boot when it is finished.

Thanks, ran the utility and was unsuccessful returning ms hearts but on further investigation I discovered that many of my programs are missing. They don't show up in the start menu and when I went into windows to get their exe files to make short cuts they didn't work either but others did when I tried this,They do show up in the control panel under programs that are installed though. so it appears that something has happened to my pc besides just loosing ms heats. Is it time for a restore? or are there any other possible solutions?
Thanks

Sounds like you managed to lose just shortcuts...it would be a small chore to restore them all as we don't know what all is missing...however it can be done.
A clean re-install will wipe out all your data and take the PC back to Day 1 status so you have some decisions to make here...

thanks but I prefer not doing that, only as a last resort, how about system restore?

Worth a try at this point...go back a week or so if possible...

If that fails, you can try going into 'programs and features' in control panel. On the left-hand pane, there should be an option 'turn windows features on and off'. Click that to open the features selector. Under 'games', look for hearts. If it's unchecked, check it and click ok. If it's checked already, then uncheck it and ok, and finally go back in and check it again to reinstall it.

Great! Thanks got it, turning off and on the feature did it, rebooted and it showed up, now if I can just figure out why my special program folder was lost with all my shortcuts to it. I ran ccleaner some time a week ago or so , do you think that might have done it?

Could have...
CCleaner has options of what to remove and not remove...spend a bit reading the Help file before your next run...
I doubt it would remove shortcuts however...do others use this PC ?

Not really although its possible that my house sitter did, not sure .....
