First thing you need to know: Remote access is under attack by the bad guys. You will need a very secure connection and security safeguards Personally, I have no pertinence is the current state of remote access But a quick search indicates thee is a level of concern over security.
Here is one such observation:

Next, one of the most successful remote access programs is 'GoToMyPC' and here is the main site:

An alternative is Symantec pcAnywhere. But hey also offer other possible solutions.

Look for VPN and Cloud software
I an not able to offer a solution.

Hi Geek thanks for the info would you use a laptop or tablet for accessing the pc in the office

Most applications are written to support Windows PCs. So a windows Laptop would work.
EDIT: Bite my tongue. Thee are some tools that are fully software transparent; You could get into a desktop PC with an iPhone!
iTap mobile RDP (Remote Desktop for Windows)

LogMeIn is double password protected, 256bit encrypted, & free for up to computers. There are numerous other methods & software to have you remotely be "sitting" at your desk.

Forgot to mention an obvious alternatives.
With a high-end laptop you can have all your software with you. Then when you get back yo the office you can synchronize files o n the office machine. This eliminates the internet security issue. And you can work anywhere.
Of course, you asked about remote-aces. Just wanted to point out that with new hardware there, remote computing is not always needed.
Also, cloud storage and synchronization is another alternative to remote access.
As I said earlier, remote access has some security issues. The risk profile is lower with cloud storage. You are exposed only during an actual file transfer.
Just saying.

I have used team viewer for this purpose, but I see no one mentions it. Geek-9pm,what do you think about security for this app, i used it many times but never thought about attack by the bad guys.

I have never used it. Here is what they claim.
In the default configuration, TeamViewer uses one of the servers of TeamViewer.com to start the connection and the routing of traffic between the local client and the remote host machine. The software then determines how to establish a connection.

TeamViewer is very secure. See http://www.teamviewer.com/en/help/14-How-secure-is-TeamViewer.aspx
