Title: windows 98 se, not shutting down...
Post by: jamesmecca on October 22, 2005, 06:11:04 PM
Every time I go to shut down the computer, it closes out windows and than just goes to a black screen.  I thought I'd wait it out and just see if it was acting slow or something, but I left the computer on for 6 hours and came back to the same thing: a blank black screen.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

A blank black screen as in turned off? Or you have to press the power button to turn off also? Are there error messages when it restarts?

it usually goes black, but will have a message saying "it is ok to turn the computer off."  Now it just goes black and the computer will continure to run and I have to hit the power on it, causing it to be shut down improperly.  When I turn it back on it starts booting up and than has a message that says conflict I/O ports: 2F8. and then gives me the option to hit delete to enter setup or F1 to continue.

Are there any problems in Device Manager (yellow exclamation points)?
