Title: Reboot and select proper boot device
Post by: heatofpowers on July 16, 2014, 09:13:11 PM
When I start up my computer it says reboot and select proper boot device, does that mean my hard drive is broken and will replacing my hard drive fix this issue. I can't press anything and it always brings me to a black screen with the message, reboot and select proper boot device. I want to know if I just buy a new hard drive, will the issue be solved. Thanks!

No. The computer can not find the boot device. It means that the configuration has been lost. Often this means the CMOS battery has gone dead.
Another possibility is a loose cable. Or a weak power supply.
Cab you boot from a CD or DVD?

First thing you want to do is replace the battery on the motherboard. Then go into bios and reset to default settings, save, reboot. Let's see if that helps.
