Post by: soybean on June 02, 2015, 07:21:15 AM
Intel Corp (INTC.O) agreed to buy Altera Corp (ALTR.O) for $16.7 billion as the world's biggest chipmaker seeks to make up for slowing demand from the PC industry by expanding its line-up of higher-margin chips used in data centers.

By combining with Altera, Intel will be able to bundle its processing chips with the smaller company's programmable chips, which are used, among other things, to speed up Web-searches.

Very remarkable story. The video mentions this kind of thing has being going on in the industry. That are too many small chip makers out there. Such buy-outs andmergers will lead to bigger, stinger companies.
Intel can now bungle the programmable logic of Altera with Intel CPUs at a better price/performance  for the OEM market. Expect Intel to offer some new industrial or consumer gadgets. Try to y imagine.

Expect super gaming consoles at attractive prices. Things like that.  :)
