Title: New build, doesn't post (but did once) fans work
Post by: moogle89 on September 01, 2017, 04:06:27 AM
Hello all.
My new build doesn't post. At first it was the GPU that wasn't all the way in, corrected that and computer posted fine. I installed the OS and some motherboard apps, and then it stopped posting. BTW the motherboards in my possession have no speaker on board, so I won't be able to tell you any beep codes.

Tried the following:
Checked the case wires that connect to the motherboard (power switch, LED)
Reset CMOS
Checked CPU power (extra cable is in)
Tried another motherboard and CPU, also didn't post (but again, the mobo worked since I could see it powering on the fans)
Tried breadboarding it with everything off except the CPU and its fan (+PSU) nothing

Any help is appreciated.

Case: fractal design node 202
Motherboard: ASrock H110M-ITX/AC
CPU: i3 intel
CPU cooler: Noctua NH-L9i
RAM: 8GB DDR4
OS: Windows 10 64 bit
SSD: Sandisk 120GB
GPU: ASUS AMD R7250-1GD5-V2
PSU: Silverstone SFX 80

Do you have another power supply to try out?

I second the power supply swap. Additionally if you have 2 RAM sticks installed ( 2 x 4GB ) then try with a single stick, then try with the other single stick.

The PSU was taken from a working computer, so that's not it. The RAM module is one stick anyway so it's not it.

Here is a photo ...

- from Google images.
Can you get a speaker for that mother?
A speaker would help to find out what is wrong.

A tiny speaker sells for about $1 plus shipping on eBay. Look for:

I thought of that but motherboards don't come with speakers these days.
I've already wasted about 200$ buying a new CPU and motherboard to test, I'll think about the speaker though. The issue is that I live in Greece and can't find any speakers here. Only from ebay and that could take months to come.

see if you can borrow a PC speaker from a neighbour, friend or family member.
they simply pull off the Front Panel header and 'one size fits all'.

Living outside of north America or UK can make mail order hard.
Still, the vendors in China make good use of international postage. Very small itmes with little value can be stippled in a padded envelope and go right through customs or duty checks in many countries.
For what it might be worth... you might try this vendor on eBay:

He says he will sell and ship for 99  cents US dollar.
Hard to believe!  ;D

I agree. But I think he should have a beeper.

The beeper helps. https://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm (https://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm)

If the computer passes the POST, the computer may give a single beep (some computers may beep twice) as it starts and continue to boot. However, if the computer fails the POST, the computer will either not beep or generate a beep code that tells the user the source of the problem.

A motherboard wont do anything except for beep codes that you cant hear without RAM. RAM is necessary to even get into the BIOS.

To clarify, the CPU runs a very small program in firmware to detect the pretense of any RAM in the PC.  If no RAM found, it goes into doing a beep to tell the user RAM was not found. The can vary with  BIOS  AND  pc makers.

Many BIOSes will have different beep codes even if they appear to be from the same manufacturer. This is because motherboard manufacturers reprogram codes to reflect their own customizations. You can often go to the website for the motherboard's manufacturer to find the updated codes, but you may find cases where the manufacturer simply does not document the changes.
Continuous beep is often memory error or something just as bad.

It was the monitor ..
The little BIOS message was apparently not enough to wake up the screen from sleep mode. Never have I seen something like this..
Anyway thanks all for your help :)

Happens to me all the time. I have to cycle the monitor. It is due to the fact that I am using a new TV as  a monitor.

I'm still wondering how you came to that conclusion.....
