Instead of opening up mp4 files easily, I get the following option now.
How can I revert back to just clicking on mp4?
-
Looks like your trying to play direct thru email. I'd click on the download option and then open it after downloaded.
-
Thats what I do, but I never had to before - I wondered what had changed.
-
What do you normally play them with ? ?...Find an MP4...rite clik it ...and select open with and select yoer app from the drop down list...save changes.

Searching on this issue seemed to indicate this is a Google issue which occurs if you have more than one Google account configured.
For Video files apparently it takes 24-48 hours to process as well or something.

VLC MEDIA PLAYER. Should I use a different one?

Check the top right corner of your email, thre should be like a circle icon with a letter that is clickable to see if you're logged into multiple google accounts at same time (if that's what the configured issue means, but idk)
Also, if VLC media player is what you've been using before without an issue, then I'd probably just keep using it unless you find a reason not to.

That is what I said before - I was using it without problems before, but now I have to download before I can play - see earlier picture. So it makes me wonder is there something wrong with VLC or should I download a different media player.

Sending pic - cant see a circle icon.

Looking at your screenshot it looks like your not actually in your google account. Open your Gmail inbox and you should find the red circle with a letter inside in the top right corner. Hover your cursor on it and it will list your google accounts. Here is a screenshot of my inbox.

Thank you for that. What I found was my name, and underneath was my email address - does that constitute two accounts then? Or does it automatically show your name AND address?
-
If your seeing just your name & one E-mail address then it appears there is only one account.
-
Next question - should I get rid of VLC Media Player and use another one - can you suggest any?
The problems still hasnt been solved.

I don't think this issue has anything to do with your selected video player. The error is coming from Gmail's integrated video player- it tries to play the video file within the browser.
As to why it would be failing- Apparently people have had this issue for a while. It seems like it has to do with some kind of redesign of Gmail that Google did recently- can you find any option to switch to "Classic Gmail"?
It's also possible that previously it was automatically downloading and "running" the video file, which would in that case show the video file in VLC after it downloads.
