Title: High CPU temps and FPS drops / stutters
Post by: Senior16 on June 17, 2022, 07:27:19 AM
Hello there

First of all, this happened like few months ago when I was about to play Battlefield 4 and CSGO but unfortunately I couldn't since I was getting FPS drops and stutters, I bought my PC in 2019 and I thought problem could be on thermal paste since it got old, I tried to figure out the problem until I saw High CPU temps then I did some research and saw that few people have faced the same problem because of the thermal paste so they had to reapply it, so I'm not the sure if that's the case right now since I can't play games that are CPU intensive although I can play other games like Forza Horizon 4 without any stutters, so I'd like someone to help me in this case

Thanks in advance

So change the thermal paste and see if that helps

I changed the thermal paste, but it turns out the CPU fan is not spinning, I noticed this yesterday as I tried to boot the PC and see the case

The PC boots and runs without any problems and doesn't shut down but the CPU fan is not spinning, any solutions? I saw some video on Youtube putting oil on the CPU fan and it worked for him, so not sure if it'll work for me

I mean, sure you could try putting oil on the CPU fan if it is not spinning. If you have another fan, you could also test to see if the motherboard fan power socket is working properly. But the cost to replace a cpu fan is typically quite cheat, so much less of a hassle than trying to oil the cpu fan. Measure the size of your fan in millimeters diagonally (corner to corner) to find you fan size that needs to be replaced, or if your cpu fan is one that clips onto the heatsink like most stock Intel and AMD coolers, then just look up the product number on the fan.

Yes, replacing the fan before your CPU gets irrepealably damaged would be advisable.

Some BIOS's enable users to adjust the fans on/off/speed capabilities - check this before replacing the fan (just in case).
