Title: External CD burner compatibility
Post by: Janis on August 06, 2022, 11:13:33 AM
Older PC only has USB 2.00     Will a newer cd burner/drive with USB 3.00 work?

Most (if not all) such devices are backwards compatible.

Yes, backwards compatible but data transfer will be limited to USB 2.0 speeds.

Hi Janis,

Reading CD's and DVD's should work. Writing thou needs more current than a USB 2.0 port can supply. When using USB2 dvd writers they were supplied with a usb Y cable to which uses 2 usb ports on the computer end. If you find there is problems you may need a POWERED USB3.0  Hub to plug the drive into. Or a USB3.0 Y cable.
