Title: UNABLE TO INSTALL
Post by: lyndhurst on March 29, 2023, 11:01:18 PM
]Windows 7
Unable to install anything.  Even virus removal software or external DVD Drive.
On some items it starts to install and in a few second it stops, or
It keeps instaling repeatedly but it never installs anything.

I'm not sure why you chose to post in the Computer Programming forum, but I'm moving this to the Malware forum. In the future, please try to post in an appropriate forum. Thank you.

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

The first thing that comes to mind is how much free space do you have on your hard drive. This will severely limit any programs you want to install. Can you please check how much free space you have and how big is the drive? Right click on the C drive and select Properties. Did you try running the computer in Safe Mode?

I gave a look at installed programs and found out that the external DVD drive installed itself.
I also found AVG Antivirus and it is asking to select a file to be scaned for a virus.
It does not say how to do it.
Also,Mozilla fire fox also can not be installed.

Please uninstall AVG. Please run a scan with Windows Defender. Do you get any errors when you try to install Firefox?

Windows 7 is no longer supported by MS. You can go to Control panel, Action center and run the troubleshooter. I'm going to move this topic to the Windows 7 forum. Hopefully, someone there can be more helpful.
