Title: Movie called Dune
Post by: stew2652 on July 03, 2023, 10:58:02 AM
@patio:  I saw a movie called Dune for the first time and found out who Maud' Dib is.  He is some warrior dude who's going to be savior of the universe and put an end to the spice production.  He led the underground rebels who were building up a vast water supply and learned how to harness the worm and ride it like a horse.  "The worm is the spice, and the spice is the worm"  And that big, fat, ugly dude who was floating around got his just desserts!

I suggest reading the Trilogy by Frank Herbert...impossible for a film to do it justice...

Dude hasn't posted since January 2017. Dune must have made a huge impression! Not that there is anything wrong with that. It's a fantastic franchise.

Also I can't wait for the new 'Dune: Part Two' to get here (Nov, 2023). It will be one of the few movies I'm willing to pay to see in a theater. Hopefully it is as good as the two trailers look.

The world-building in DUNE is, IMHO, the best thing about the story/movie.  You can put yourself in it - completely.
Of course, the books are always better than a movie because a book can include so much more detail and things happening that will not fit into the time people will stay still to watch a movie. Maybe a series would be better to illustrate DUNE's ongoing stories.

I've heard that DUNE is the best selling SciFi series of all time. So famous that Frank Herbert's son was able to write Frank's unfinished next novel series from Frank's notes and snippets he had been working on when he died.
