Title: FCC: Wind Down the Affordable Connectivity Program!
Post by: Geek-9pm on May 04, 2024, 01:52:50 PM
Really? Why? You can Google yourself, but it is really  closing down.  :(
The service is presently in use, but may stop soon. Look around.

I just lost mine, mi culpa, now I can not get it back. Fortunately y I have a relative that is helping out and he pays for it.  ;D

This is important for old folks at the low end of Social Security.

Yep. We probably should have nationalized the ISP's a long time ago...

As an alternative have you looked into the lifeline program?

That is a very interesting thought, nationalizing the ISP end of this Net business. True, I have not lived in the U.S. for a long time, but I still stay connected to all sorts of issues that go down in the U.S. and I think this might be the first time I've seen this idea posted on any site. Or I am simply forgetting a previous posting on another site.

Now I better explain myself on one point; when I write it is an interesting idea I am not necessarily stating that I approve the idea. But I am certainly not doing a File 13 with the idea, either. It's worthy of discussion. Of consideration.

Frankly, I think the Internet has become way, way too important in all manner of life in the U.S., and many other nations, and so certain operations need to be re-examined --- re-examined as to whether a given service should remain a commercial entity/operation. Of course, there are a whole bunch of very intelligent folks that will slam the door in your face when you propose going the government way with certain operations. In fact, I got in big trouble over at the ISOC for an idea that came close to something like we have here. The then-president was so upset he banned me from some meetings.

Okay, I am going on-and-on here , just like the old man I am. Sorry.
