Title: Future Of Computer Games
Post by: R0SS on April 28, 2006, 03:37:39 PM
Now here's something i was thinking about that's mind blowing!

What do you predict or like to see what would happen to Games In out life time.

i'll start you off..

How cool would it be to Step inside a game! Like you have a gun and you are on the battlefield you are maby on some sort of tread mill thing so you have to run etc. There is like a screen all around you or a like eye set. Graphics would obviously be IMMENCE!  :)

Any other cool ideas?

I've read books (Fiction) that talk about VR and actually stimulating impulses in your body... well if the analog signal impulses can be transfered into digital and vice versa to have a real game experience... what would happen when the game would crash.. or if it got a virus?

Something to think about...

I agree its probably not smart pushing the boundaries of reality.

I like the idea of VR and simulating reality on glasses & Headphones... but going past that can actually ruin impulses.. ultimately causing a coma or worse...

if it's possible to translate analog to digital in a realm like that, and vice versa.. could you imagine the serious damage of a Bug, Virus... or misplaced format command?

Watch a Hitler like revolution be created by programmed humans.

VR has been around for a while.. just not at a price the normal person could afford...

I just don't like the idea of hardwiring my impulses to a machine... anyone smell a terminator?

Would we want to?  ;)  It depends on what the terminator is SUPPOSED to smell like that I'm concerned about.

I saw a show on TV a couple of nights ago where they had a guy inside a sphere that was capable of moving in any direction.
It was fully interactive with a computer program, he could walk, run or jump etc while viewing the program through a wireless headset thing that also tracked the position of his head to give the right view.

Yeah I saw the sphere too. But at around $50,000 I don't think it will be popular for a long time.

You know, a while ago (before 1999) there was a VR Gameboy console. I don't know how well it worked. My brother has one.

VR that would be very nice but lol inside a game? I would want to be there and would'nt, for 1 reason to would not want to be in there is because of the injuries. If your character get injured dont you think the programmers want to make you feel that injury or a less pain method of that injury? But it would be cool being inside doom 3 or quake 4 and really taking over the BFG and blasting your way through and the visuals would be life like. Man the possibilites of making a complete game with you as the player are great... lol battlefield 2 with you inside... and online... with other VR fanactics.

It would be total great.

What about GTA Just have a old car. and get in every now and again.
That would be amazing a massive city that you could walk around.

The only problem is people with Weak minds might then think its real and could kill and steal real cars.

VR would be good for an arcade, pay for half an hour or so.
But in you own home? not so sure, theres too meny weirdos out there like myself that just would not leave the house with something like that.
I'm not really sure what would be classed as VR
It all depends how real this reality machine is.
Why go to work while you could be skiing the French alps? Don't know how to ski? Download the skill.
Taste is a part of reality, could you eat virtual food?
I'm not sure what is how real VR has to be to be classed as VR...
Of course a seccond reality would be great for more professional uses like medical practices etc...
Still, bad idea. no man should be given such power.

But anyway.. talking of games, i'd love to jump in a game of BF2... 1st person shooters would make the most sense to play...
Not sure how you would go about playing Age of empires.

Haha.. Yeah it would be kinda hard to play strategy games in VR I would think, but First Person games would dominate..  I think the first generations of VR machines will likely have tons of flaws.. (think comas and such lol)

Strategy games like AoE and Starcraft would probably be *censored* hard to play, unless it was kinda like on each team there is a king, and some generals. The king tells the generals what to do and the general will build or something...It would be hard either way.

But virtual food, based on your senses? That could lead to death. They would eat "in game" and not be hungry, but would be loosing nutrition and die from starvation.

And to think about the VR based on you, look at the show ".hack" or what ever its called, people always were getting virus's or something  :o

Yea i saw this program that had this cricket thing. He had laods of impulse thingymabobs attached to him and had a wired up cricket bat. He als had some special glassses on, so when the glasses showed the ball comming he could swing with the bat and the thingymabobs would detect it and take the appropriate action. It was pretty mint.

We've already got VR kind of in a really affordable *censored* way... eye toy, guitar hero, blah blah blah. One of my great wishes for computer games in the future is to be able to interact and have an option for absolutely everything... Like in Morrowind you could pick up a fishing rod but not go fishing with it (what's all that about). Can you imagine a game where literally ANYTHING was possible and everything had an effect... I dunno, like you chattd up the bar maid and had babies and then cheated and she hit you over the head with a frying pan... or, say, you robbed someone and then without you expecting it, 4 days later his posse came after you... you get my drift... I think that would be ace... But is it possible?

Um.. your talking about AI JessicaB, and that AI you mentioned at the end of your post, there is a VERY LIMITED form of that in Oblivion.

A aye! I know that chuck! All I can say is bring it on... but is anyone ever gunna build us a machine and some software that can handle it!?  :-?
