Title: slow opening files
Post by: Rusty on August 29, 2004, 06:42:01 AM
My thinkpad runs windows 98. It's old but reliable.
I'm having trouble opening files such as gif, jpg, spreadsheets etc. Some open lightning quick, but some will take 3-5 min. There is very little hard drive activity during this time. If you ctrl/alt/del and click close it says that it's not responding, but if you leave it alone it will always open....eventually. As anyone into computers would agree, waiting is no fun. Thanks for any help.

Ran it on my xp machine, all's well.  ;)

Burned a copy and put in my 98 machine, not so good. registry cleaner runs but at the end crashes w/ illegal operation. Start up cleaner can't find all users start file. I'll have to play with it some more. Thanks for the info. Any pointers you may think of will help. ???
