Title: June monthly poll
Post by: Computer Hope Admin on June 05, 2006, 03:30:28 PM
For the month of June we thought we would run a poll to see if you think technology has made your life easier. There has been many who have discussed and argued about all of the social and beneficial impacts of technology. Many argue that technology helps bring everyone together, makes difficult tasks easier, and gives people more free time. However, others argue that technology has had a great impact on peoples privacy, social life, spirituality, and simply consumes more of a person’s free time.

Feel free to discuss why you think technology has made your life easier or harder and/or what new or old technologies you have used that make your life easier or has made your life more of a burden.

A complete listing of all the Computer Hope polls as well as last month’s poll can be found at (http://www.computerhope.com/polls.htm).

Just think about how much harder it would be to do research for say a school project without the Internet! Especially when they don't let you use encyclopedias!  :o  Plus, look how easy it is to find information on... Everything! If you have a problem, just Google it!

a definite yes. good point, anything i need to find out anytime i normally just put into wikipedia. like Sir Tim Berners-Lee (inventor of internet). turns out in 70's i think he lived in colehill, dorset, uk. thats only a few miles up the road from me.

just go to wikipedia and you can find out about anyone or anything.

Absolutely ....... however going along with the advancements are the ever increasing requirements as far as managing the new technology .

i agree with dl65's "however" statement.

the more technology advances, the more we have to know to advance with it. the more work we can do with new technology, the more is expected, the more its expected, the more time kids spend in school getting up-to-date how to do it so they can stand up to those expectations.

so is technology making our lives easier? i say yes and no. i still dont know all the things my satellite receiver can do.

P.S. i was the 1 guy that voted "no" so far :P

In some ways, no. After all, you have to maintain the technology (mostly because of virus writer's -- I'd love to talk to the writer of Trojan.Nebuler right now, preferrably in a dark alley). However, that headache is far offset by the rich bounty technology provides. Write an essay in a fraction of the time! Calculate a budget in a few easy steps! All the information in the world comes through a 3mm cable! (Not sure about the actual exact size) Games that blow other entertainment away! I could go on for hours. :)

In some respects i agree. For example my mobile, thast made things easier. Also my laptop for my coursework with the use of the internet. However in others i disagree becasue its not fail safe and have had many problems with it, which does not make thing easier!

I think it hasn't made life easier but it has certainly made life a lot more interesting like we can do more tings etc.

Its just making life more efficient.

Yeah I think technology has made life easier, but it sure does create problems. CH wouldn't exist if it weren't for these stupid boxes on our desks that we are staring at right now.

It wasn't long ago that just about anyone could repair their own car with a few basic tools - now that's impossible.

We were all just as happy without mobile phones, digital cameras, xbox's, gps navigation, cable tv, and mp3 players.

Having said all that I don't really want to go back 10 years - I do like my mobile phone, digital camera, etc, etc

LOl you said people could repair cars with a few tools years ago.

your right well my friend's dad just got a high spec car. and it just died because the computer says its pumping out too many emissions. so they took it back to the dealer and he plugs the car into a computer and the car tells him whats wrong with it.  Turns out all they needed was a software upgrade.

now isn't a computer in that case useless?
