Whenever I start up my WindowsXP Pro, I get these two windows that pop up everytime, and I have no idea on how to get rid of them, even the file name doesnt make any sense to me. I also have a problem with a Windows Install window popping up, but will get to that later, here is the first window that pops up.
-
The second one after the first. It makes reference to the registery, but I have run a reg cleaner but that doesnt help.
-
Any idea how to get rid of these windows popping during startup? :-?
-
You're on the right track by looking for the registry entry.
There are many programs that show what's starting from the registry.
Try 'Autoruns' from http://www.sysinternals.com or you could even try running Hijackthis and see if it shows in there.
-
Thank you so much for pointing me to that Autoruns program Fed, that program was able to lead me right to the problem, fixed it, and I will know what to do in the future, that site looks great for stuff as well....
The other problem I was going to mention as I said in my first post is similar to the one I just fixed, when starting up Windows I get a far more annoying window that comes up, this one is a Windows Installer window, and it wants to install a program that is already on the hard drive, I have a hard time canceling it, I have to hit ctrl/alt/delete just to get it to stop, and this window pops up when I click on other program icons as well, I looked for this in Autorun but didnt find anything, doesnt sound to me like a registry problem, any suggestions?
-
What is the program that's trying to install?
I suppose you could let it complete the installation or alternatively you could uninstall the program & start from scratch with it.
Edit: Autoruns is much easier to use if you set the Options to 'Hide Signed Microsoft Entries' then refresh the screen.
-
Its called Scrapbook Factory Deluxe, as I mentioned its already installed, it even comes up checking e-mail, ect, its my wife's key program on the computer and she doesnt want me to uninstall it, she is about the same level of computer knowledge as myself and she is convinced the problem has something to do with a component of Windows being erased at some point causing this to happen, I dont think thats it myself, any idea?

Thanx Fed, I will do that, so I guess your saying your pretty sure its the program and not a windows problem? I just need a view from someone who knows what they are talking about that I can pass on to my wife, LOL....
Thanx for all the help, great site you have here, will be sure to mention it to my friends....
-
I'm sure it is a program problem, it may even be some sort of automatic update.
Let us know what they say.
-
Before I call them, I am trying to uninstall the program first, and the *censored* thing wont uninstall, I just get the window below over and over, anyone know of a good uninstall program? I would rather do it that way then manually remove the program bit by bit....
-
I have tried 3 different programs to uninstall this beast and none of them work, I'm not sure if I should just try to manually do it....
-
What are you using for malware protection?
-
Ewido, along with the usual, Spybot, Ad-Aware, SpywareBlaster and AntiVir PE Classic....
-
How about running Hijack This and posting a log file for analysis by one of our experts. Either zip the file or use several posts to get it all.
-
OK, I will download Hijack this and post the log files....

try deleting it from your registry by:
open start menu > click run > type regedit > find it under > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > then figure out who made the software, find that folder, delete it, then try to uninstall, if there is no folder, then goto program files or where ever its installed, and look for the missing .exe, if it is missing, delete everything to do with the program piece by piece and attempt to re install, i have had to do this with many programs...
-
How about zipping it up and posting so it will be one continuous coherent file. ;)

I use 7-Zip, I have to figure out how to Zip a file...
-
Or download and use WinZip. It is easy and free to try!
-
I cant get WinZip to zip the file, says it doesnt appear to be a valid archive, I'm going to keep trying, this whole problem is gonna drive me to drink, lol....
-
Lets try this...

I've looked around the FAQs on the scrapbook page and it seems to be devoted to install & uninstall problems.
I'd email them & if you don't get a satisfactory answer then remove it manually & start again.
(Take a look at their FAQs areas)
Hijackthis... your computer is screwed but get your scrapbook problem fixed first.
-
Went to the Microsoft site to look into the problem, and apparently there was a install component missing, fixed that and now things seem OK, so thats good....
You say Hijackthis is showing lots of problems? Looking forward to dealing with those....Thanx for looking at the site, I just didnt think they would be much help....

Hijackthis... your computer is screwed but get your scrapbook problem fixed first.
I got rid of some programs, and with that new Microsoft thing I added I figured I better put in a updated Hijackthis file for whenever you can take a look at it....
-
Post a fresh Hijackthis log for our viewing pleasure. :)
-
Here it is, I have run AdAware, Spybot and Ewido in the last 24 hours.....
-
I must just keep missing Fed or something..... :-?
-
You can start a post called "Fed Help Me!" That ought to get his attention. ;)
