Title: Freeze on Windows Start Up
Post by: lslsbl on September 01, 2004, 09:05:50 AM
Hello:  I need some help.  Our computer starts normally until it gets to the Windows 98 start up page.  Normally, this page pauses a few seconds, then our desktop appears.  However, the Windows page is freezing and the start up is not going any further.  However, it looks and sounds as if the computer is still "thinking".  The blue color band still runs back and forth across the bottom or the Windows 98 screen, etc.

We had been having some crashes while on Explorer in the last month or so, and we recently had RoadRunner installed - but that's been running fine.

This problem happened last night right after we downloaded some Virus updates for our virus software (reputable, purchased software).

Any ideas on why the computer is stuck on the Windows page?

Thanks.

I´ve encountered same kind problems with my 133mhz Intel, and changing the hard drive and re-installing windows helped. The hd was filled with bad sectors.
There can be many reasons for such freezing...

Fix Windows is starting up freeze

Ignore all suggestions about registry fixes. They are just selling gimmicks.

The problem usually is due to back sectors in your hard drive. I fixed the freeze by buying a new hard drive and cloning my C drive to it with Acronis True image. Make sure to clear your old hard drive.
