Title: Problem after deleting spyware
Post by: Juan_Fisto on June 14, 2006, 06:36:46 PM
I ran Spy Sweeper.  After I finished my background wallpaper will not appear, but background color does.  Here is picture of my problem (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y263/1010101010/BackgroundProblem.jpg)

Did you run it in safe mode with system restore off? What was found? Have you run it succcessfully in the past? What else are you running for protection? Can you put the wallpaper back? Was this a downloaded wallpaper?

A little more info is required.

I ran it in safe mode with system restore off, and  nothing was found. I ran successfully in the past. I also run Norton Anti-Virus for protection.  No, I can not put the wallpaper back, and this was not a downloaded wallpaper.

The file I downloaded of off  http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm did not work, and I did read and do all stuff on that other post, but none of it worked.

Check to make sure you don't just have an active desktop setup or something. It may have been left behind from some spyware or something. To check this just go to display properties then the desktop tab then customize desktop then web. Make sure nothing is checked there.

I cant help but to notice that, you are not Running the Standard Windows Interface, it may be the case that you need to change your background useing the Skining program u have.

Also your skinner may have been ad-supported and got broke when you scaned for ad-ware

Pretty sure what he means is that there are several add supported programs out there and just in case Juan had one that edited his background image. If this was the case and the adware was removed it could cause it behave like this.

Whatever. I think this is not top on the list of probability. But again, I couldn't comprehend what he was apparently saying.

Got your fix for ya right here.

1. Open the registry editor (start -> run -> regedit)
2. Find HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System "Wallpaper"=SZ:C\WINDOWS\desktop.html
3. Back it up just in case.
4. Delete it and reboot.

Done!
