Title: Opening Ports
Post by: Flame on June 22, 2006, 01:45:25 PM
Hi guys, the router finally got in the way of me hosting on online game, so according to the manufacturer, this following ports need to be open: Allow port 6112-6119 TCP and UDP out and in ... How do I do this? I never touch my firewall lol  My software firewall is Zone Alarm Free, but that's the the problem, becuase I used ot host with it no problem. The router has an internal firewall which is blocking the ports. The router is a Netgear WGT624 v.3 ... Any idea how to open the ports? Oh, I'm using XP SP2 as well.

Look in your router's manual under "port forwarding".  You need to tell the router than when it receives connections on that specific port range, it should forward them directly to your game server on your LAN.  Post back if you get stuck with this.

Yes, port forwarding should do the trick. If you have a second computer that does nothing but host the game, you can put it in the DMZ for total exposure to the internet (minus what a software firewall would block).

Thanks for the suggestions! I looked at my Netgear documentation, and everything's fine! Thanks!  ;D
